Throat/Voice/Reflux Issues

You wake up one morning with a dry, sore throat and hoarseness.   Is it simply a cold or is it something else…something with potentially more profound health implications? The key is knowing what to look for, conducting the right testing with the right technology.

CT ENT prides itself on making superior diagnoses for:

    • hoarseness
    • voice changes
    • chronic throat clearing
    • cough
    • foreign-body sensation.

We were the first ENT practice in the region to offer take-home Restech pH Study monitoring to diagnose GERD/LPR.

GERD and LPR are terms to describe acid reflux from the stomach. Many of our patients suffer from acid reflux that irritates the throat. This is called laryngopharyngeal reflux or LPR. This is a condition that can go undetected and cause chronic cough, excess phlegm and hoarseness.

The first step in diagnosing LPR is to look for the tell-tale inflammation of the voice box using our state-of-the-art endoscopes, right in our own office. We take it a step further by measuring the amount of acid reflux reaching the vocal cords and can also determine the time of day or night this is occurring. Thus, we can then tailor a treatment regimen consisting of dietary/lifestyle modifications as well as medications to manage this common problem.
