What is otoplasty?

Otoplasty is often referred to as “pinning” the ears back. Otoplasty alters the appearance of your ears through a facial plastic surgery procedure. A plastic surgeon reshapes and molds cartilage in the ears to reposition them after making incisions behind the ears. After being repositioned, the openings behind the ears are closed with sutures and protected with medical dressing.

Otoplasty patients have options when undergoing the procedure with CT ENT. They may choose between local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthetic. Otoplasty allows patients to return home the same day as an outpatient procedure.

Could you benefit from otoplasty from CT ENT? Here’s how to tell.

Woman bothered by the placement of her ears

Otoplasty changes the appearance of your ears, meaning that if you’re unhappy with how your ears look, otoplasty could be the best decision you make for your ears and self-confidence. You may benefit from otoplasty if:

  • You’re bothered by the position of your ears
  • You do not like the contour of your ears

Otoplasty from CT ENT, performed by Dr. Heather Waters, will add symmetry to your ears while positioning them in a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing location.

Otoplasty recovery. What to expect.

Otoplasty is an outpatient procedure with minimal soreness and downtime. You will likely be able to resume normal activities, including work, after one or two weeks. Post-procedure measures include:

  • Follow-up office visit
  • Incision check
  • Observing swelling and bruising
  • Head wrap removal
  • Care instructions
  • Removal of sutures one week after surgery
  • Elastic headband provided to wear for the following seven days. The headband can then be worn at night only the following month

Throughout the recovery process, Dr. Waters and the CT ENT staff will assist you in recovering quickly. After the post-surgery appointment and suture removal process a week after the procedure, your office visits will be over. You’ll be able to forget about your ears, which will now be in a natural position and no longer drawing in the attention of others.
